It's about this guy that gets thrown in a prison on the island of Khorinis.
The valley is surrounded by a magical barrier so no one can leave.
Its a pretty cool game.

And though Gothic 2 is the most fun, you have to decide on what kind of weapon to mainly use. Enemies don't respawn so XP is limited.
Risen 1 shares the same sort of leveling/upgrade system, but is more recent.
